PHILOSOPHY OF THE FACULTY
The philosophy of Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Ilorin is to produce Veterinary graduates who are capable of taking veterinary practice into the 21st century and well beyond. Such Veterinary Doctors would be highly competent and motivated to enjoy practicing veterinary medicine with the required skills to enhancing livestock production, promoting public health and preventive medicine and be equipped to be relevant in biomedical research, livestock industries and in academics.
AIMS/OBJECTIVES OF THE FACULTY
The main aim of the DVM programme is to:
Produce high quality veterinary graduates that can effectively compete with their counterparts nationally and internationally through provision of high grade veterinary education especially in the area of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of animal diseases, promotion of public health and reduction of animal sufferings.
The basic objectives of the programme at University of Ilorin includes among others:
i. Achieve and sustain national and international standards in teaching and research in veterinary medicine.
ii. Provision of broad and balanced basic courses in Veterinary Medicine with maximum practical exposure.
iii. Developing in students the ability to apply biomedical knowledge and skills to solve clinical problems, prevent and control diseases, livestock, pet and aquatic animal production and to solve problems related to animal production systems and the environment.
iv. Developing in students a range of transferable skills of value in clinical and non-clinical employment;
v. Equip the students with the theoretical and practical knowledge to enable them pursue further studies in specialized areas of Veterinary Medicine and other discipline that would add value to quality of human life and
vi. Provide the students with knowledge and skills in entrepreneurship so as to make them face the challenges of 21st century veterinary business/practice.
