
Meet UNILORIN’s First Female Professor of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Nusirat Elelu!

Nusirat Elelu is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ilorin. She is board-certified by the College of Veterinary Surgeons of Nigeria as a Fellow of the Public Health specialty and is an affiliate of the Africa Academy of Sciences (AAS). Additionally, Professor Elelu is a member of the Africa Research Excellence Fund (AREF) College of Experts.
Professor Elelu has held several academic positions, including Head of Department and Faculty Postgraduate Coordinator. Her research focuses on the epidemiology of infectious diseases, vector-borne zoonoses (diseases transmissible from animals to humans), global health, and One Health.
Professor Nusirat Elelu, FCVSN, has successfully competed for and secured several research grants, including awards from the African Research Excellence Fund (2017) and the International Foundation for Science, Sweden (2018 and 2022).
