Engineering, Education, Pharmacy win Inter-Faculty Quiz, Debate, Public Speaking contests  

The Faculty of Engineering and Technology, the Faculty of Education, and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences of the University of Ilorin, have won the 2022/2023 Inter-Faculty Quiz, Debate and Public Speaking Competitions, respectively. The competitions, were organised by the Quiz and Debate Committee of the University.

In his address at the grand finale of the competitions last Wednesday (May 15, 2024), the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, described the Institution’s students as prides of the nation.

Prof. Egbewole, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Sulaiman Funsho Ambali, said that the competitions should be seen as an opportunity for the students to excel in their various academic careers and not to see them as do-or-die affairs.

The Vice Chancellor also congratulated the winners and those that could not reach the final stages, saying that they are all winners.

Other winners of the competitions included the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, which picked the second prize; and the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences that picked the third place of the Quiz Competition.

In the Debate Competition, the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences came second, while the Faculty of Law picked the third prize.

In the Public Speaking category, the Faculty of Engineering & Technology ended as the 1st runner-up while the Faculty of Law finished as 2nd runner-up.

The quarter-final, semi-final and grand finale of the competitions held between May 8 and 14, 2024, at the University Auditorium with contestants representing eight Faculties — Communications and Information Sciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering and Technology, Education, Veterinary Medicine, Basic Clinical Sciences and Basic Medical Sciences — were preceded by knockout stages between all the 16 Faculties in the University.

The event was graced by the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. M.T. Yakubu, and his Sub-Deans; the Dean of the Faculty of Education, Prof. Lasiele Yahaya; the Dean of Life Sciences, Prof. Omojasola; some other professors and students from various Faculties.
