You’ve made us proud, Egbewole hails UNILORIN X-Culture ambassadors

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole (SAN), has commended the 41 Unilorin students that participated in the 2024 “X-Culture” programme for their dedication and hard work, saying that the invaluable skills they gained through the on-line international collaboration would be useful to them for life.

            Prof. Egbewole stated this last Monday (May 27, 2024) at the reception and certificate presentation ceremony organised for the X-Culture Ambassadors by the Centre for International Education (CIE) at the University Auditorium,

Describing their participation in the maiden edition of the X-Culture programme as an opportunity that has brought joy to the University, the Vice Chancellor told the students, “You have made us proud”.

The students, who are drawn from various Faculties of the University, include Sekinat Badrudeen, Peculiar Chisom, Chukwukere Olokode, Sherifat Eniola, Tijani Taofikat, Abiola Taine Oluwabunmi, Adebayo Oreoluwa, Issah Alabi Babatunde, Atoyebi Itunoluwa Janet, Jolayemi Abdulkadir, Esan Mary Imoleayo, and Alaba Emmanuel Adekunle.

Others are Shuaib Arafat, Oluwadamilola Summer Anyanwu, Akinkanju Temidayo Favour, Jemima Alabi Isama, Mustapha Jolayemi Mubarak, Olatunji Yesirat Olayinka, Tinuola Quareebat Oseni, Sulaiman Ahmad Olohuntobi, Ebareki Mudiakevwe Igbagbo, Kekere-Ekun Maryam Olasumbo, Malik Oiza Dorcas, Ponmile Olawuyi, and Adegbesan Afolorunso Faith.

Also included are Gabriel Ayodele, Adunmo Omotola Christanah, Ridwan Alapo, Ogundele Favour Jesuspemi, Abdulrazaq Moyosore Isamiyah, Afolabi Azeezat Kehinde, Opoola Khalid Olayiwola, Fawaz Olamide Salau, Abdulsalam Khadijah Ayomide, Adeyemi Emmanuel Ayomide, Bamidele Olajesubomi Ayomide, Bilesanmi Tobiloba Adesewa, Olorunfemi Solomon Abolaji, Adekunle Ibrahim Adeniran, Olowoniyi Samuel, Adebayo Usman Adeyinka, and Adesina Islamiyah Mojirade.

Highlighting the role of international collaborations, Prof. Egbewole shared his optimism on the programme being a crucial step towards internationalisation of the University.

He noted that the programme would not only broaden the students’ perspectives but would also enhance the reputation of the University as a hub of global learning and collaboration.

Prof. Egbewole also commended the CIE Director, Prof. Ibraheem Onireti and the founder of the X-Culture programme, Mr Vas Tara, for introducing the programme to the students and facilitating their participation.

The Vice Chancellor further urged the Students Union leaders to advocate for students’ participation in such programmes thereby increasing collaborations.

Earlier in his address, the Director, Centre for International Education, Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, explained that the desire of the present administration of the University to ensure that the University emerges as the first in Nigeria, one of the leading 10 in Africa and among the topmost 500 at global level, could only be achieved if the University has respectable presence in the global arena through functional participation in intellectual programmes, research and contests by its staff members and students.

Prof. Ibraheem explained that participation in programmes like X-Culture is one of the ways by which the University can earn global recognition among scholars, students, researchers and other stakeholders.

He added that the experiences derived from X-Culture would always enhance the academic wherewithal of participants and also equip them with critical skills such as cross-cultural communication, team work and problem-solving in a real world context.

The Director congratulated students of the University who participated in the programme as he said that their participation is a testament to their dedication and ability to work effectively on a global stage.

Prof. Ibraheem thanked the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for introducing the University to the X-Culture programme.

He added that the Vice Chancellor’s commitment to enhancing the institution’s horizons and fostering global engagement has paved the way for students of the University to experience transformative opportunities like the X-Culture.

He also thanked the founder of X-Culture, Mr Vas Taras, and Mr Abdulazeez Idiaro for their efforts in ensuring that students from the University participated in the programme at all costs. He further thanked the University Committee on the programme, under the leadership of Prof. I. B. Kadir, for their support.
