Enhancing rural economy critical to national growth

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has said that enhancing the country’s rural economy is crucial to achieving national growth and stability. Prof. Egbewole made this assertion penultimate Tuesday (October 8, 2024) while speaking at the 33rd edition of the annual national congress of the Rural Sociological Association of Nigeria (RUSAN) held at the University. Prof. Egbewole highlighted the importance of focusing on rural livelihoods and their economy, noting that rural areas provide immense opportunities for growth despite the challenges they face.
The renowned Senior Advocate of Nigeria commended RUSAN for its commitment to addressing these challenges through the conference. He said that building resilience in rural communities is essential for their inhabitants to adapt and thrive in the face of economic and environmental pressures. “The challenges facing both rural and urban areas require us to develop strategies that will enable our rural communities to combat and adapt to these difficulties,” the Vice Chancellor stated.
