Abikoye to deliver 270th Inaugural Lecture, Nov. 28th

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has urged Nigerians, particularly younger compatriots, to emulate the sterling qualities of the former Chief of Staff to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Prof. Ibrahim Agboola Gambari,CFR.
Prof. Egbewole gave this admonition last Thursday (November 21, 2024) at the Kwara State Banquet Hall, Ilorin while speaking at the public presentation of a book on Prof. Gambari, titled “Reading in Dipmocacy, Democracy, Peace and Development”. The event was organised by the Commonwealth Scholars and Fellows Alumni Association, Nigeria (COSFAN) in collaboration with the Kwara State Government and other partners.
The Vice Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, described Prof. Gambari as an exemplary patriot and statesman whose impacts would continue to be felt by the present and incoming generations.
Prof. Egbewole, who congratulated the distinguished statesman on his attainment of the age of 80, said that he remains one of the most illustrious sons of Nigeria.
He added that the career of the former Minister of External Affairs has benefited so many individuals, groups and institutions including the University of Ilorin.
The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU) wished Prof. Gambari many more years of sound health and greater achievements.
The event was attended by two former Vice Chancellors of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Shuaibu Oba AbdulRaheem, OFR and Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, OON.
Also in attendance were the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research, Technology and Innovation), Prof. Adegboyega Adisa Fawole; the University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa; and the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal, who was represented by Mr AbdulRasheed Ahmed and a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, Prof. Saudat Salah-Abdulbaqi, among others.
