UNILORIN to sponsor 500 students on AI training

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole,SAN, has unveiled plans by the University to sponsor 500 of its students  on the use of Artificial Intelligence.

Prof. Egbewole stated this last Wednesday (December 10, 2024) while signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the management of Tech Mindset Africa in Nairobi, Kenya, as part of the activities marking his working visit to the East African country.

The Vice Chancellor, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), explained that the proposed training of the Unilorites is targeted at encouraging the beneficiaries to acquire and expand needed skills in the exploration of Artificial Intelligence for innovations and career progression.

While on the visit, Prof. Egbewole also took time to hold consultations and sign Memoranda of Understanding with organisations such as SchoolTry AB, Kenya; Craft Silicon, Kenya; and Konza Smart City.

Similar engagements were also held with reputable Kenya institutions of higher learning such as the Management University of Africa(MUA), Day Star University as well as the Kenya-based African Telecommunications Union (ATU).

Speaking with UNILORIN Bulletin, a member of the delegation and Director of the Centre for International Education (CIE), Prof. Lateef Onireti Ibraheem, commended the Vice Chancellor for his relentless efforts at promoting the internationalisation drive of the University.

Prof. Onireti pointed out that the visit  would enhance the global reputation of the University and provide invaluable opportunities for staff and students.

The Director pointed out that the future of the University is bright with the series of Memoranda of Understanding signed in the course of the visit.

Other members of the Vice Chancellor’s delegation were the Director, Directorate of Computer Services and Information Technology (COMSIT), Prof. Rasheed Gbenga Jimoh; and the Director, Centre for Research, Development and In-House Training (CREDIT), Prof. Abdulkareem Oloyede.
