The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the ThisDay Newspaper on its numerous contributions to national and human development, describing it as a reliable and dependable partner in progress.
In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, last Thursday (January 23, 2024), the Vice Chancellor said that the management and staff of the media outfit deserve to be congratulated as the newspaper marked its 30 years of robust journalism and impactful service to the nation and global community.
The Vice Chancellor specifically congratulated the founder and publisher of the media enterprise, Prince Nduka Obaigbena, on sustaining the glittering legacy of the publication, which has been discharging its functions continuously in the last three decades despite several challenges.
He noted that the newspaper is one of the most respected publications in the country, adding that it has always provided quality information, education and entertainment for its readers.
Pointing out that ThisDay is noted for unbiased reportage and rich contents, Prof. Egbewole thanked the newspaper for always supporting the University of Ilorin, saying that it is one of the greatest friends of the institution.
He also thanked the newspaper for producing the University spokesman, Mr Kunle Akogun, who, he said, had been passionately and professionally serving the institution in the last 13 years.
The Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law also expressed his appreciation to the newspaper for serving as a training ground for students of the University pursuing media related courses, saying that many alumni and students of the institution either undertook their industrial attachment or mandatory youth service programme at the newspaper house, as many also cut the professional teeth at the media organisation.
While wishing the newspaper more years of quality services to the nation, the Vice Chancellor expressed hope that the newspaper would continue to support the University in the years ahead.
