An Assistant Director at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Mustafa Muhammad Abubakar, has called on university students in the country to be creative and innovative in preparing for future opportunities.
Mr Abubakar made the call penultimate Saturday (February 15, 2025) while speaking at the inauguration of the new Executive Committee members of the National Association of University Students (NAUS), Kwara State Chapter, at the Nigerian Labour Congress Secretariat Hall in Ilorin.
Delivering a keynote address, themed “Innovate, Create, Inspire: The Future is Now,” Mr Abubakar stressed that innovation is essential for progress, stating that “to secure a proper future, creativity and innovation cannot be overlooked.”
Mr Abubakar, who is also the Acting Production Editor of UNILORIN Bulletin, said that creativity extends beyond a single discipline, adding that it encompasses areas such as arts, music, and writing, and should be fueled by strong inspiration to achieve long-term success.
He said, “As students, embracing a growth mindset, fostering a culture of creativity, and finding a purposeful direction are key to turning dreams into reality.”
Mr Abubakar urged NAUS members, especially the new leadership, comprising UNILORIN students, to think outside the box and generate groundbreaking ideas that could contribute to societal progress.
He also advised them to remain focused on their studies, maintain discipline, and position themselves for leadership roles both in Nigeria and beyond.
Mr Abubakar, who is also a former Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, encouraged the new NAUS EXCO to uphold high standards of responsibility, reminding them of their duty not to disappoint their parents and guardians.
He urged the Association to embody discipline, unwavering dedication, and integrity, saying, “Be ambassadors of honour, for only by so doing can you inspire belief in your cause.”
The renowned journalist counselled the new student leaders to anchor their faith in God and embrace their innate gifts with patience. “Do not rush ahead of your destiny,” he cautioned.
