UNILORIN Alumni Spotlight is on Adenike Temidayo Oladiji – Class of 1988!

Professor Adenike Temidayo Oladiji, FAS, obtained her BSc, MSc and PhD degrees in Biochemistry from the University of Ilorin, Nigeria, in 1988, 1991 and 1997, respectively. She undertook further training at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel (MASHAV programme), the Canadian Institute for Innovation Development (CANDIDEV), Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the African Leadership Institute, Dayton, Ohio, USA. She was an exchange scholar of the Association of African Universities at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

The erudite scholar joined the University of Ilorin in July 1992 as an Assistant Lecturer and was appointed Professor in September 2011. Professor Adenike Oladiji has mentored numerous doctoral students and supervised many doctoral theses to completion. A prolific researcher with over 100 publications, Professor Oladiji has won numerous distinctions, awards and scholarships. She is a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.

In 2022, the renowned Professor of Biochemistry was appointed as the 8th Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, with the distinction of being the institution’s first female Vice-Chancellor. Professor Oladiji has attracted research grants for research, institutional development and capacity building. She has attended and presented numerous keynote and lead papers at national and international conferences. She is a member of many professional bodies, including the West Africa Research and Innovation Management (WARIMA), the American Society of Nutrition, the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), the Science Association of Nigeria and the Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology.

Professor Adenike Oladiji is a keen sports enthusiast and an award-winning badminton player, serving as Captain of the Unilorin Veteran Badminton Club. She is happily married and blessed with children.
