
UNILORIN Alumni Spotlight is on Opeyemi Bello – Class of 2016!

Opeyemi Bello is a Senior Research Associate in Analytical Chemistry at NewLeaf Symbiotics, USA. He applies his expertise in spectroscopy to support research and development initiatives focused on developing novel biologicals for agricultural sustainability.
He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Ilorin in 2016, graduating in the top 10% of his class under the supervision of Professor Abdulmumeen Amao Hamid. He then obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE), where his research, under the supervision of Dr Jie Dong, focused on producing acetate as a precursor to biobutanol for alternative energy development.
Opeyemi is a member of the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE). In 2022, he received a graduate research grant at SIUE and was also recognised as an International Ambassador.
He has been invited several times to present his research at ACS and AIChE conferences and has served as a reviewer for the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists conference, evaluating abstracts for conference presentations.
