UNILORIN Alumni Spotlight is on Muhammed Brimah – Class of 2004!

Muhammed Brimah is a dedicated advocate for sustainable development in Nigeria, with a strong track record in social investment, job creation, and humanitarian initiatives. Born in 1981 and hailing from Kwara State, he has played a pivotal role in shaping impactful programmes that address socioeconomic challenges across the country.

Currently, he serves as the President of the Governing Board of the North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub (NEHIH), a non-profit organisation fostering social innovation and entrepreneurship to drive sustainable development in conflict-affected regions. His leadership has helped bridge gaps in humanitarian response through research, capacity building, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

Muhammed, a proud alumnus of the University of Ilorin, has extensive experience in youth empowerment and vocational training. As Team Lead (2020–2023) for Entrepreneurship and Vocational Skills Training at the At-Risk Children’s Programme (ARC-P), he developed training curricula, supervised implementation, and secured partnerships with NGOs to provide opportunities for vulnerable youth.

Previously, as the Pioneer General Manager (2020–2022) of the Kwara State Social Investment Programmes (KWASSIP), he successfully led initiatives such as cash transfers for the elderly, youth capacity-building programs, and microfinance schemes for market women. He also established a Shock-Responsive Social Protection System, ensuring economic resilience for vulnerable communities.

Muhammed also served as Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation (2019–2022) and Internally Displaced Persons (2015–2019), where he played a key role in designing and implementing the Federal Government’s Social Investment Programmes. Notably, he spearheaded the establishment of NEHIH in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Presidential Committee for North-East Initiatives (PCNI), driving innovation to tackle humanitarian and development challenges.

Beyond Nigeria, he contributed to the Niger Delta Amnesty Program, facilitating vocational training for ex-militants in Gambia and Ghana (2011–2013)

Committed to grassroots development, he founded the MoBrimah Foundation, which focuses on youth empowerment and human capital development projects in Kwara State. Through his relentless dedication to humanitarian and social welfare programs, Muhammed continues to champion sustainable development and create lasting impact in communities across Nigeria.
