AFRICALICS’ 6th Conference ends with Cultural and Awards Night

The African Network for Economics of Learning, Innovation and Competence Building Systems (AFRICALICS) hosted a dazzling Cultural and Award Night to round off the 6th AFRICALICS International Research Conference.

 The event was held last Thursday (November 14, 2024), at De Peace Hotel, Tanke, Ilorin, marking a stylish close to the conference activities hosted by the University of Ilorin.

In a welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN, expressed gratitude to the AFRICALICS organisers for what he described as “the best conference”.

Prof. Egbewole lauded the conference’s organisation and underscored the importance of ending it with a lively celebration, urging the guests to enjoy the festivities and use the occasion to network.

Also in his remarks, the President of AFRICALICS, Prof. Daniel Kitaw, shared his excitement about the event, affirming that the conference had been worth every moment spent by the attendees.

Prof. Kitaw’s “Welcome Home” message echoed the positive atmosphere of the evening, adding to the spirit of cultural pride and professional recognition that defined the night.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General of Nigerialics, Maruf Sani, said that the event showcased AFRICALICS commitment to fostering learning and innovation across Africa.

A research and innovation associate at the Tshwane University of Technology, South Africa, and Professor of  Agricultural Economics at the University of Ilorin, who is also the Vice President of the African Association of Agricultural Economists, Prof. Opeyemi Ayinde, added her appreciation for the success of the conference, noting the impact of AFRICALICS in promoting regional competence and knowledge exchange.

The event featured an awards segment where distinguished personalities who have made significant contributions to the academia, law, and economic empowerment in Nigeria were honoured.

Among the honorees were: Alhaji  (Dr) Abdulraheem Amao Oladimeji, OFR, the Asiwaju and Jagunmolu of Igbomina land and founder of Al-Hikmah University; Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin and current Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB); Prof. Yusuf Olaolu Ali, SAN, a renowned legal practitioner and Professor of Practice, Dr Olatunde Oladokun, Executive Director of Self Reliance Economic Advancement Programme (SEAP), noted for his work in economic empowerment and Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, the 11th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin.

In their separate acceptance speeches, the honourees expressed happiness over their recognitions.

Alhaji Oladimeji expressed gratitude to Almighty Allah and thanked the organisers, wishing them continuous growth in their endeavours. The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Oloyede, who was represented by his wife, conveyed his appreciation to AFRICALICS for the honour,

The evening’s cultural and award dinner capped a successful conference, leaving participants with a renewed commitment to advancing innovation and learning throughout Africa.
