Akogun assures UNILORIN UCJ of support

The Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr. Kunle Akogun, has promised that the Directorate, and especially UNILORIN 89.3FM, would continue to partner with like-minds for the benefit of its listeners and the society at large.

Mr Akogun stated this last Monday (October 28, 2024) while welcoming the leadership of the University Campus Journalists (UCJ), University of Ilorin Chapter, to his office.

The Director, who was represented by the General Manager of the radio station, Mr Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Alooma), emphasised the need for the UCJ to always be mindful of the interests of the University.

He urged the campus journalists to exercise restraint in their activities and uphold professionalism in their write-ups.

The veteran journalist assured the UCJ that their partnership with the Directorate would not restrict their journalistic freedoms but rather encourage them to report with integrity and accuracy.

Also speaking, the Deputy Editor, UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Abubakar Imam, urged UCJ members to maintain discipline and professionalism, especially when sourcing and disseminating information.

Speaking earlier, the UCJ President, Miss Hannah Boluwatife Oladele, thanked the Director and members of staff of the Directorate of Corporate Affairs for the role they have been playing in boosting the image of the University.

Miss Oladele, who was accompanied on the visit by the Director-General of the UCJ, Miss Mariam Muraina-Akinola, explained that the consistent recognition of the University as the nation’s leading institution of learning cannot be divorced from the activities of the Directorate.

She emphasised the UCJ’s focus on three primary objectives: securing internship placements, fostering relationship-building programmes, and launching the upcoming UCJ QFest and requesting the Station to support its efforts.

According to Miss Oladele, “these initiatives are essential for students’ growth, providing practical experience, building industry networks, and unifying voices within the field of Journalism”.

She affirmed that UCJ QFest, in particular, would serve as a unique platform to showcase the journalistic talents of students while fostering unity within the communication field.

Mr Akogun was joined to receive the UCJ team by a Principal Information Officer, Mr Tolulope Jolayemi; an Information Officer, Abdulkadir Abubakar and Mr Dawodu Bashir, another Information Officer.
