Alaro hails Egbewole on quality service delivery

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has again been commended for always encouraging quality service delivery among staff members of the University.

This commendation was made last Monday (March 10, 2024) by the Director, Quality Assurance Unit of the University, Prof. AbdulRazzaq AbdulMajeed Alaro, in a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin.

Prof. Alaro explained that the Vice Chancellor has been leading the University with example, saying that there could be no better encouragement than for a leader to discharge his duties as he would like his subordinates to do.

The Director said that the Vice Chancellor does not just preach efficient service delivery but also acts it through prompt attention to issues brought before him.

He also noted that the Vice Chancellor has also been aiding service delivery through prompt supply of needs and requirements forwarded to him by Faculties, Departments and Units.

Prof. Alaro, who is a former Head of the Department of Islamic Law, University of Ilorin, also thanked the Vice Chancellor for the support he has been extending to the Quality Assurance Unit for it to achieve its essence.

Speaking on the mandates of his office, the Professor of Islamic Law said that the Unit is charged with monitoring and evaluation of the quality and magnitude of services rendered by every segment of the University to ensure that such conform with global best practices.

He explained that this involves ensuring that academic staff of the University deliver lecture as contained in departmental timetable as well as monitoring the performance of duties of the non-teaching staff.

Prof. Alaro also explained that his Unit also welcomes complaints from students and staff on service delivery issues with a view to ensuring that right things are done at the right time.

The Director explained further that his Unit also monitors examinations with a view to ensuring compliance to the laid down rules governing conduct of examinations.

Towards achieving its mission, Prof. Alaro said that the Unit has instituted an annual award called “Quality Assurance Ambassador”. He said that the award is for both the academic and non-teaching staff of the University.

Prof. Alaro added that the award is to send a strong message to the members of the University community that excellent service delivery would always be appreciated and rewarded.

The Director equally said that staff of the University would continue to be trained on Quality Assurance Management as part of efforts targeted at sensitising them on the need to always do the right thing at all times.

While recalling that the first phase of the 2024/2025 workshop was held in September, 2024, which was mainly for Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors and Deputy Directors; the second phase is slated for next month and it is targeted at Level Advisers across various Faculties and non-teaching staff on CONTISS 08 to 11.

The Director, while assuring the Vice Chancellor and members of the University community of the readiness of his Unit to discharge its duties as expected, appealed for more support from the University Management for the Unit to achieve its essence.
