Egbewole congratulates UNILORIN Muslim Community on Ramadan

Following the commencement of this year’s Ramadan fasting over the weekend, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has enjoined members of the University Muslim Community to make effective use of the period by getting closer to their creator and work harder on their attitudes for the nation to enjoy true rebirth.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), gave this advice in a congratulatory message to the University Muslim Community on the occasion of the commencement of the month-long fasting period.

In a statement issued by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor felicitated the Muslim staff and students of the University on  witnessing another Ramadan season.

While reminding staff of the University to show more commitment to their responsibilities, Prof. Egbewole encouraged them to devote more of their time, energy and resources to worship God and build peace and love with their neighbours and colleagues.

The Vice Chancellor, who said that fasting goes beyond abstinence from eating and drinking as well as avoiding conjugal pleasure, explained that it revolves around seeking proper reconciliation with Allah and fellow human beings through the demonstration of absolute discipline and positive discretion.

He also charged the well-to-do ones to remember the less privileged by extending one form of support or the other to them in order to promote fraternity in the society.

.              The Vice Chancellor, who is the Chairman of the KU8+, said that even non-Muslims must enjoy the love of Muslims during and after the Ramadan season for the essence of the period to be justified and appreciated.

Prof. Egbewole wished members of the University Muslim Community and their counterparts across the country a very peaceful and rewarding Ramadan season.
