The Governing Council of the University of Ilorin has applauded the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, on the progress and achievements recorded by his Administration since he assumed office as the 11th Chief Executive Officer of the institution a little over two years ago.
The Secretary to the Governing Council and Registrar of the University, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, conveyed the Council’s commendation through a letter he presented to the Vice Chancellor last Thursday (November 14, 2024) in his office. The letter presentation was witnessed by other Principal Officers.
Presenting the letter, Mr Alfanla said that the Governing Council was impressed by the state of affairs of the University as presented by the Vice Chancellor during the 186th Meeting of the Council recently.
Following this, the Registrar said that the Council commends Prof. Egbewole on his exemplary leadership in steering the affairs of the University, adding that his commitment and the dedication demonstrated by his team, have not only advanced the mission of the University but also enhanced its reputation and standing within the broader academic landscape.
The letter reads, “Following your presentation on the state of affairs of the University to the Council at its 186th Meeting held on Thursday, 17th and Wednesday, 23rd October, 2024, the Council carefully considered the report and was impressed by the progress and achievements recorded during the period under review. “In light of the foregoing, I write on behalf of the Council to commend you for your exemplary leadership in steering the affairs of the University. “Consequently, the Council expresses its sincere gratitude for your outstanding performance and that of your team. The Council looks forward to future accomplishments and it is excited about the prospects that lie ahead for our University under your stewardship”.
While receiving the letter in his office, the Vice Chancellor, who was visibly elated for the honour done him by the Governing Council, appreciated members of his management team for their support, which has culminated in the honour.
Prof. Egbewole added that the encomium wouldn’t have been achieved, without their understanding, cooperation and support, as he pledged that more will be done to make the University of Ilorin one of the best in the world.
The Vice Chancellor further stated that he would forever cherish the honour, saying, “I am extremely moved and at a loss for words. I will cherish this always and tell my family about the honour bestowed upon me by my colleagues.”
While noting the strong bonds within the group, Prof. Egbewole said, “We have related as brothers and sisters. It’s not that we don’t have disagreements, we do. We sometimes raise our voices during meetings, but we know it’s never personal. Whatever disagreements we have, we discuss them and move on. That is truly our strength,” he said.
