Egbewole greets Olu Obafemi on 75th birthday

As an Emeritus Professor at the University of Ilorin, Olu Obafemi, mni, marked his 75th birthday last Friday (April 4, 2025), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has described him as an outstanding scholar and eminent statesman who has paid his due.

Prof. Egbewole stated this in a statement signed by the University Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun.

The Vice Chancellor described Emerit. Prof. Obafemi, who is a former Nigerian National Merit Award winner, as one of the most impactful members of the University community who served the institution gloriously throughout his career as a teacher and University administrator.

He added that the University would continue to celebrate the scholarly achievements of the retired don, which brought numerous recognitions to the University.

The Vice Chancellor added that the University would continue to follow the progress of its retired staff wherever they are as it does for those who are still in service.

Prof. Egbewole encouraged the Emeritus Professor and his likes to continue to provide quality mentorship for the younger ones for the nation to produce more patriots like them.

Emerit. Prof. Obafemi, who taught at the Department of English of the University for decades, was also a former Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Federal University of Technology, Minna. He is currently holding the same position at the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara, Kogi State.

He, along with a former Vice Chancellor of the University and current Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Is’haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, CON, and a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Minna, Prof. Musibau Adewumi Akanji, were early in the year appointed Emeritus Professors by the University authorities in recognition of their contributions to advancement of knowledge and human development.
