Geophysics Dept holds maiden M.Sc defence

The Department of Geophysics, University of Ilorin, has held its maiden Postgraduate thesis defence.

The Department, which commenced the M.Sc. and Ph.D. Postgraduate programmes in the 2021/2022 academic session, held the maiden M.Sc thesis defence at the end of the Department’s 2022/2023 session last Thursday, (July 4, 2024).

Speaking at the end of the exercise, the External Examiner, Prof. O.G. Bayowa of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, commended the two researches presented for their quality, noting his deep satisfaction.

 He stated that by his reckoning, such quality could not have been achieved without the unflinching cohesion of purpose among the staff of the Department. He, therefore, urged members of the Department to sustain the cooperation and other efforts that have resulted into the successful defence.

In his remarks, the Head of the Department of Geophysics, University of Ilorin, Prof. S. Olatunji, appreciated the University management for its support, especially in the provision of facilities, such as the establishment of an Intergraph Room, where the grants recently won by staff of the Department were installed.

Prof. Olatunji noted that the installations have aided the quality of research carried out in the Department. He also thanked the staff of the Department for their support and hard work, noting that their work ethics ensured the success recorded with the maiden defence.

The two postgraduate students, who successfully defended their M.Sc. researches, are Okekeoguegbe, O. A. and Olajolo, O. S.
