The Guinness World Records (GWR) has confirmed Qudus Owoyemi, a 400-level student of the Department of Statistics, University of Ilorin, as the new Guinness World Records title holder for the fastest time to complete five skin fade haircuts.

The remarkable achievement, accomplished in just 14 minutes, 56 seconds, and 83 milliseconds, surpassed the previous record of 18 minutes and 57 seconds.

In an email sent to Owoyemi last Tuesday (July 2, 2024), the Guinness World Records announced that “your application for fastest time to complete five skin fade haircuts has been successful and you are now the Guinness World Records Title Holder!”

It added, “You are now eligible for one complimentary Guinness World Records certificate”,

The groundbreaking event unfolded on January 25, 2024, at the Students’ Union Building, University of Ilorin.

Qudus, who is also a University Scholar with an impressive CGPA, performed the feat to the cheers of a captivated audience.

After the record-setting accomplishment, Qudus addressed the enthusiastic crowd, expressing gratitude for their support and encouraging everyone to maintain the momentum while awaiting official confirmation from Guinness World Records.

In January, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, lauded Qudus’ remarkable achievement, emphasizing the University’s immense pride in his feat.

In a congratulatory message to the University community, Prof. Egbewole encouraged others to pursue their passions, expressing commitment to supporting innovation and lofty ideals that elevate the University’s reputation.

He added, “We will continue to support lofty ideals that can move the world beyond the frontiers and shuttle to the space. While congratulating Qudus, we hope others are inspired to also break all ceilings and continue to put our name in gold. Congratulations to us all”.

The Vice Chancellor noted that the achievement further solidifies the University of Ilorin’s commitment to excellence and innovation, making waves on the global stage.

“As a University, we are immensely proud of the feat of Qudus and will continue to encourage others to find their passion and pursue it. Before he commenced the competition, I called him and encouraged him to go and beat the world. Thank God, we made it”, he stated.
