Surv. Abiodun Jacob Aluko, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council of the University of Ilorin, hails from Ikere in Ekiti State. He was inaugurated along with other Council Members on July 1, 2024 at the National Universities Commission (NUC) headquarters, Abuja.
A Licensed Surveyor, Mapping and Environmental Consultant and Geographic Information System (GIS) expert, Surv. Aluko attended the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife, where he studied Applied Geophysics. He graduated from the institution in flying colours in 1976.
After his national youth service in 1977, Surv. Aluko joined the Civil Service of Old Ondo State. He was later trained as a professional Surveyor at the famous Federal School of Surveying, Oyo, where he left a yet to be broken record as he passed all the qualifying examinations at one sitting ahead of all his colleagues and seniors in 1983.
The new Pro-Chancellor rose to the position of Head of the Department of Surveying in the Ondo State Housing Corporation in 1985 before voluntarily quitting the public service.
He, thereafter, went into private professional practice and also into corporate administration by joining the Ondo State Council of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (OSCCCIMA) in 1986 where he served in various capacities as Director General/Council Secretary, Vice President, and ultimately the pioneer President of Ekiti State Chambers of Commerce in 1996.
Apart from being a member of many Land Management and Infrastructural Resources Development Organisations, Surv. Aluko is also a Fellow of the Institute of Corporate Administrators of Nigeria as well as the Chartered Institute of Management and Leadership, Commonwealth of Kentucky, USA.
Surv. Aluko subsequently joined politics and he was elected the Deputy Governor of Ekiti State in 2003. As Deputy Governor, Surv. Aluko performed excellently well, which assisted the administration to lay the foundation of the physical development of Ekiti State on which subsequent administrations have been building.
After leaving office as Deputy Governor, he had served in other capacities, including being a member of Governing Councils of three different federal universities: Bayero University, Kano; Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State; and University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Surv. Aluko is a recipient of many honorary chieftaincy titles and awards including the Olu-Omo of Ikere Kingdom, Ekiti State; the Baba-Ijo of St John’s Anglican Church, Ikere-Ekiti; Awards of Excellence by the Ekiti and Ondo States Chapters of Obafemi Awolowo University Alumni Association; the Annunciation School Old Boys Association; the Rotary Club, Akure; the Ekiti State National Students Union; the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors; Patron, All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Ekiti State; Life Fellow of the Ondo State, Ekiti State and National Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture ( NACCIMA) of Nigeria.
