
Red Cross commends UNILORIN’s commitment to students’ welfare

The Director of the Centre for Gender Studies, University of Ilorin, Prof. Patricia Omojasola, has commended the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, on his efforts in promoting gender inclusivity in the University.
Prof. Omojasola made the commendation last Tuesday (March 25, 2025) when she led a group of women on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor in commemoration of the International Women’s Month.
The Director specifically highlighted Prof. Egbewole’s support for women-friendly policies, gender balance in leadership, and ensuring a safe and supportive workplace. She noted that under his administration, intentional policies have been made to promote gender equity within the University.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor emphasised the importance of women’s contributions, stating that it is foolhardy to think women do not matter.
He appreciated the visit by Prof. Omojasola and her team, commending the inclusive nature of the delegation, which comprised academic and non-teaching staff, as well as a student.
Prof. Egbewole pledged to provide necessary support to the Centre for Gender Studies to enable it to thrive and continue to promote gender equity through education, research, advocacy, and policy recommendations.
Members of the women team on the visit included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola; the President, National Association of Women in Academics (NAWACs), Unilorin Chapter, Prof. Irene Abiodun Durosaro; the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole; the Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Prof. Oyebisi Mistura Azeez; the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Nimah Modupe AbdulRaheem; Dr. Saudat Adebisi Olayide Hamzat; the Deputy Registrar (Vice-Chancellor’s Office), Mrs. Azeezat Quadri-Ibrahim; the representative of the Director of Legal Unit, Mrs. Falilat Funmilayo Sheriff; and the Vice President, Faculty of Life Sciences Students Association, Miss Sharon Oluwadara.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Adegboyega Fawole and the Registrar, Mr Mansur Alfanla, FCIML, joined the Vice Chancellor to receive the delegation.
