The Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, recently held a seminar on the pivotal role that Faculty management plays in achieving the University’s ambitious Vision 1:10:100, a vision that aims to position the University as one of the top 100 universities globally, with a focus on delivering quality education to students, fostering academic research, and expanding its community outreach.
At the seminar, held penultimate Tuesday, (November 5, 2024) at the Faculty Board Room, the Guest Speaker, who is also the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Olubunmi Abayomi Omotesho, provided insightful strategies on aligning Faculty efforts with the institution’s long-term objectives.
Prof. Omotesho underscored the importance of synergy among top-level management and the need for alignment with the overall goals of the University. According to him, when management teams work cohesively, it becomes easier to establish standards, maintain academic integrity, and contribute to the institution’s vision for global recognition.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor provided an analysis of Vision 1:10:100, explaining its ambitious objectives and what it means for the University of Ilorin. He pointed out that the Vision’s aim for the University to be in the top 100 universities globally requires an unwavering commitment from every Department and Faculty.
He said that equipping Faculty management with the necessary skills and knowledge will effectively steer the institution toward meeting this ambitious goal.
Prof. Omotesho, who is a former Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, reminded participants that the success of the Vision hinges on a strong support structure within the Faculty, comprising skilled and proactive leaders who can implement strategies effectively.
He reiterated that the vision’s success would require ongoing training, adherence to global standards, and a collaborative spirit within the Faculty, fostering a conducive environment for research and innovation.
The Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Oluyemisi B. Fawole, emphasised the significance of the seminar, stating that it was designed to be a platform for Faculty leaders to better understand their roles in contributing to the University’s global competitiveness.
Prof. Fawole expressed the hope that the workshop would mark a new chapter in the Faculty’s contribution to the University’s vision. She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained and to work collaboratively toward fulfilling the University’s aspirations for global recognition.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the Faculty Workshop, Training, Seminar, and Lecture Committee, Prof. A. Muhammad-Lawal, expressed gratitude to the guest lecturer and the participants for their attendance. He noted that the knowledge shared would serve as a blueprint for future Faculty training and workshops aimed at strengthening the institution’s strategic objectives.
