The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has urged the recipients of the Unilorin Muslim Community’s awards to sustain their excellence in their diverse fields of expertise.

He gave this encouragement penultimate Sunday (June 30, 2024) at an event hosted by the Unilorin Muslim Community to celebrate its newly promoted members from various Faculties and Directorates.

Prof. Egbewole expressed gratitude to the event’s organisers for recognising the accomplishments of the community’s outstanding members, who have excelled in their fields. He acknowledged Allah’s benevolence towards the honourees and prayed for His continued blessings, using their achievements as a springboard for even greater success.

In his address, the Chairman of UNILORIN Muslim Community, Prof. Mudathir O. Yusuf, acknowledged that while many of the honourees may have already been celebrated by their families, friends, and individual communities, the Unilorin Muslim Community is uniquely honouring them as an inclusive and diverse Ummah, showcasing its unity and solidarity.

The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, who presented a paper titled “To Whom Much is Given, Much More is Expected”, reflected on the wonders of Allah’s favor on individuals from conception to birth and to the moment of their achievements.

Prof. Akanji, a former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology Minna, urged the honourees to reciprocate Allah’s gestures by extending kindness and love to other creatures.

He emphasised that kindness goes beyond financial support, but also encompass words of comfort and encouragement to those in distress, as stated in Quran chapter two, verse 245.

The Chief Imam of the University, Prof. Nasir Abdulsalam, who graced the occasion, implored Allah to protect and guide the honourees, the University leadership, the guests, and the entire University community. The event, held in the University’s Multipurpose Hall, drew a large and distinguished audience, including Prof. L. F. Oladimeji, representing the AL-Hikmah University Muslim Community, Ilorin, and Dr. Adam Shittu, Chairman of the Muslim Community at Kwara State University, Malete.

Others include members of the Governing Council of the University,Prof. Abdulrasheed Adeoye, Prof. Usman Raheem, Dean of Clinical Sciences, Prof. Lukman Abdur-Rahman, Dean of Education, Prof. Lasiele Yahaya, amongst others.
