UNILORIN to be self-sufficient soon – Egbewole

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has disclosed that his Administration is working assiduously towards ensuring that the institution becomes self-sufficient.

Prof. Egbewole, who stated this penultimate Tuesday (September 24, 2024) while speaking with a crew of UNILORIN Bulletin in his office, explained that his Administration is planning to ensure that members of the University community use what the institution produces. He added that it is not good enough for members of the University community to ignore items being produced by the institution for those shipped into the campus.

The Vice Chancellor said that the policy would be kick-started by ensuring that only UNILORIN Water is made available for sale on campus.

Prof. Egbewole noted that the UNILORIN Water Enterprise has been repositioned to produce enough bottled and sachet water to satisfy the water needs of staff and students of the University as well as other members of the University community.

He added that the policy would also be extended to other products and services that are readily available at the University.

While commending the Faculty of Agriculture for selling its farm produce to members of the University community during its periodic Market Day programme at the University Community Centre, Prof. Egbewole explained that other segments of the University would be encouraged to go into the production and provision of relevant goods and services for members of the University community to patronise.

He explained that the policy is not only intended to protect the UNILORIN brand but also aimed at promoting and enhancing productivity.

Prof. Egbewole expressed the hope that the policy would also enhance the revenue generating capacity of the University and improve its respectability as well.
