The nation’s most sought-after University, the University of Ilorin, last Wednesday (April 16, 2025) pulled off another big win, as it was adjudged ‘the Best Corporate Share of Voice (Social Media)’ institution at the 2nd National Spokespersons Summit (NSS) organised by the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Abuja.
The award was given to the University in recognition of its excellent exploration of social media to maintain consistently efficient communication and engagement with its relevant stakeholders. (Contd. on page 4)Media user award
The award presentation, which was done by the Vice President of the NIPR, Prof. Emmanuel Dandaura, fnipr, was accompanied by loud ovations from the participants and other members of the audience who came from various parts of the country and beyond.
The award was received on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, fnipr, by the University Social Media Officer, Mr Lukman Temitope Omoniyi, a Principal Information Officer at the Directorate of Corporate Affairs.
The organisers commended the University for doing quite well in the exploration of different social media platforms to promote goodwill and understanding between the institution and its relevant publics.
Other members of staff of the University who joined Mr Omoniyi to receive the award on behalf of the Vice Chancellor were a former Head of the Department of Mass Communication, who is also an NIPR Council Member, Prof. Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, fnipr; the Deputy Editor of UNILORIN Bulletin, Mr Abubakar Imam; and the University Protocol Officer, Mr Segun Alabi.
The trio was also joined by the Kwara State Commissioner for Communication, Mrs Bola Olukoju; the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye; and several alumni of the University who attended the event.
In a chat with UNILORIN Bulletin after receiving the award, Mr Omoniyi, who also won a separate Certificate of Award for himself described it as a notable milestone in the annals of the University.
He explained that the award is a reflection of the University’s commitment to engaging with members of the university community, including students, staff and others.
He added that he was equally humbled to have been a finalist in the Outstanding Spokesman (Education Sector) category, saying that he was grateful to have been in the company of talented individuals like Dr Fabian Benjamin of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB). He said that being shortlisted alongside him was an honour.
Mr Omoniyi said, “Our sights are firmly set on achieving the Vision 1:10:500 of the University of Ilorin, under Prof. Egbewole’s guidance, and the accolade confirms we are moving in the right direction, and we won’t lose momentum.”
