The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has urged the National Universities Commission Parastatal SERVICOM Committee (NUC/PSC) to engage in a more vigorous advocacy campaign to inform Nigerians about the impact of SERVICOM’s work.
Prof. Egbewole made the appeal last Wednesday (November 13, 2024) while receiving a delegation from the Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, the National Universities Commission, the Ministry of Education, and representatives from various institutions in Nigeria, who visited him ahead of their participation in the 4th Quarter 2024 NUC/PSC Meeting hosted by the Unilorin SERVICOM Unit.
The Vice Chancellor said while a lot is already being done, there is a need for stronger advocacy to highlight the group’s current efforts, so that people can better appreciate the work it is doing.
Prof. Egbewole, who appreciated the Unilorin SERVICOM Unit, headed by Mrs Omowumi Azeez, for living up to expectation by promoting efficient and effective service delivery in the University, especially praised the SERVICOM’s role in monitoring prices of commodities on the campus to prevent overbilling the students.
Speaking earlier, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of the SERVICOM Office at the Presidency, Mrs Nnenna Akajemeli, explained that SERVICOM is the government’s customer service arm within the universities, ministries, departments, and agencies, which is responsible for supervising and overseeing how effectively services impact citizens and stakeholders.
While expressing appreciation for the support given to the SERVICOM Unit at the University of Ilorin, Mrs Akajemeli commended the leadership of the University on its hospitality. She also recognised the efforts of its SERVICOM focal person for her dedication.
