The President of the University of Ilorin Student Union, Comrade Victor O. Agezeh, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Union leadership to the welfare and wellbeing of students of the University.
Agezeh, who is a student of the Department of Accounting, stated this last Monday (March 17, 2025) in a telephone interview with UNILORIN Bulletin.
The Student Union President said that he and his colleagues in the Union’s Executive Committee would spare no effort towards enhancing the welfare of the students.
Agezeh said that members of the EXCO are deeply concerned about the high transport fares charged by campus shuttle operators.
He explained that as a step forward, the Union has succeeded in convincing the shuttle bus (Korope) operators to reduce the number of passengers they usually carry to ensure the comfort of students and other commuters.
He added that as from last Monday (March 17, 2025) a shuttle bus would be carrying eight passengers instead of ten that they currently carry.
The President said that the Union is also interested in the welfare of students who reside off campus as it does about those who live on campus. He thanked God for protecting the lives of some of his colleagues whose off-campus hostels were affected by a recent fire incident emanating from the electric transformer serving their area.
Agezeh said that he and other members of the Executive Committee immediately visited the scene of the incident they were happy that no life was lost.
While commending the University Administration under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, for its student-friendly dispositions, Agezeh assured the University Management and other stakeholders that the students of the institution would continue to ensure that the prevailing peace across the University campus is maintained.
He assured that the students would not do anything that would disrupt the academic calendar of the University and the harmonious nature of the institution’s host community.
