
There is no success without succession – Egbewole

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has assured all that students of the University would continue to be treated like kings and queens that they are.
Prof. Egbewole gave this assurance last Thursday (March 6, 2025) while delivering a keynote address at the PR Clinic organised by the Kwara State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) at its secretariat in Ilorin, where the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Mr Kunle Akogun, presented a paper on the upcoming golden jubilee celebration of the University.
The Vice Chancellor, who was represented at the event by the Dean, Faculty of Communication and Information Sciences, Prof. Lukman Adesina Azeez, explained that the University would never take its students for granted as he assured that they would continue to be given priority attention.
Prof. Egbewole, who is a Fellow of the NIPR, explained that the future of the University depends on the impression developed about the institution by its alumni.
The Vice Chancellor added that the University would always encourage its academic and non-teaching staff to handle student matters with care.
He explained that the Student Affairs Unit of the University work round the clock to ensure that students have a memorable stay in the University.
Responding to some questions on the University Alumni Association, the Vice Chancellor explained that the current challenge facing the Association stems from unnecessary contestation for power among some of its members.
He explained that the University Administration was doing everything to ensure that the misunderstanding is resolved in the interest of the University.
While saying that the friction within the Alumni Association has no negative effects on the University’s service delivery, the Vice Chancellor assured that the University Administration would continue to adopt diplomacy in bringing the challenge to an end.
Prof. Egbewole, who said that the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of the University is all about its alumni, encouraged members of the institution’s alumni to take advantage of an Alumni Day, which is one of the highlights of the celebration, to rub minds with their colleagues.
In her remarks, a Professor of Mass Communication at the University, Saudat S. Abdulbaqi, who is also a Fellow and Council Member of NIPR, said “Prof. Egbewole is public relations personified”, adding that “our Vice Chancellor is an epitome of good public relations”.
She also relayed the goodwill message of the National President of NIPR, Dr Ike Neliaku to the Vice Chancellor and the entire University Community on the forthcoming 50th Anniversary.
Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Kwara State, and an alumnus of the University, Mr Olayinka Fafoluyi (Solace), commended the Vice Chancellor for supporting the efforts of the institution’s Directorate of Corporate Affairs’ in positively projecting the alluring image of the University.
Mr Fafoluyi also saluted the Professor of Jurisprudence and International Law for being an alumni-friendly Vice Chancellor, saying that he was always motivated and stimulated with the warm dispositions of the Vice Chancellor to products of the University.
He added that the presence of the University in the conventional and social media is incomparable with that of any other university in the country.
Mr Fafoluyi assured the Vice Chancellor that the Alumni of the University are ever ready to support the University not only to ensure the success of the upcoming anniversary celebration but also identify with the University before and thereafter.
