Yusuf, UNILORIN alumna, becomes Appeal Court Justice

A graduate of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, Justice Asmau Ojuolape Tanwa Yusuf, was last Wednesday (July 10, 2024) sworn-in as one of the new Justices of the Court of Appeal.

The event, which took place at the Supreme Court of Nigeria Complex, Abuja, was presided-over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola.

Until her elevation, Justice Yusuf was a Judge of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory.

Justice Yusuf, who was born on May 20, 1979 and called to the Nigerian Bar in 2004, was also a staff member of the Directorate of Legal Affairs of the University of Ilorin before joining the Kwara State judiciary as a Magistrate.

Reacting to the development, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, said that the University is delighted to have one of its alumni and ex-staff member as a Justice of the appellate court.

In a statement issued on his behalf by the Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, the Vice Chancellor said that the management, staff and students of the University received the news of the elevation of Justice Yusuf to the appellate court with pride and gladness.

Prof. Egbewole, who is also the Secretary-General of the Association of West African Universities (AWAU), described Justice Yusuf as one of the outstanding products of the University and a thoroughbred judicial officer whose activities on the lower bench have been very exciting and remarkable.

While congratulating Justice Yusuf on her elevation, the Vice Chancellor urged her to continue to serve as an impartial adjudicator. He also urged her to remain a shining role-model to students of the University and members of the nation’s younger population at large.
