The Senior Staff Association of Universities (SSANU), Unilorin Chapter, has made remarkable strides under the leadership of Comrade Naheem Olusola Falowo, with an impressive 98% achievement of his electioneering campaign promises.
This was disclosed by the Chairman, Comrade Falowo last Tuesday (January, 7, 2025) while fielding questions on a Unilorin FM popular Yoruba programme, ‘Oro to n lo’, anchored by the Station Manager, Mr. Idris Akintola Ibrahim (Idris Alooma).
Comrade Falowo highlighted several notable accomplishments by his executive committee to include the completion of the SSANU Secretariat, equipped with modern furniture, a board room, and a state-of-the-art crèche, considered the best in Kwara State.
He also listed the Union’s active participation in national and zonal meetings, such as the National Delegates Conference, National Executive Council meetings, and Zonal Executive Council meetings.
The SSANU Chairman also noted that the Union has successfully influenced the payment of staff’s two months’ withheld salaries, payment of responsibility and hazard allowances, and the migration of SSANU members’ salary from IPPIS to GIFMIS. He added that two SSANU members, Dr. Rasheed Odunola and Mr. Rasheed Gidado, were elected to the University Governing Council.
Comrade Falowo attributed the Union’s successes to its cordial relationship with sister unions, such as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), the National Association of Academic Technicians (NAAT), and the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), as well as the University Management, led by Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN. He emphasised that the Union’s approach to resolving issues involves consultation, consolidation, and confrontation, with the latter being a last resort.
While acknowledging that there are still pending demands from the Federal Government, such as the remaining two months withheld salary arrears, and the N50 billion arrears of earned allowance, among others, Comrade Falowo expressed his appreciation to SSANU members for their support and prayers. He also appreciated the cooperation of the sister unions and members of the University community at large.
He urged members to trust the leadership, attend congresses, and shun rumours, assuring them of his accessibility at all times.
