… as VC unveils anniversary billboard
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, last Monday (January 13, 2025) unveiled a specially designed billboard announcing the upcoming celebration of the golden jubilee anniversary of the University.Speaking at the event, which was held beside the University Main Gate, the Vice Chancellor explained that the ceremony marked the commencement of the 50th anniversary, which, he said, would be celebrated throughout the year.Prof. Egbewole said that the celebration, the grand finale of which would hold in November 2025, would be engaging, successful, and revealing.
He added that the celebration would also afford the management, staff, students, alumni and other stakeholders an opportunity to shout, sing, dance and celebrate the University. Prof. Egbewole also assured all stakeholders of the University that the celebration would be used to announce and celebrate the far-reaching impacts of the University not only on the nation but also on humanity as a whole.
He disclosed that alumni of the University scattered across the world would be part of the celebration.The Vice Chancellor congratulated the Chairman and members of the Anniversary Planning Committee for hitting the ground running right from its inauguration last year.
He said that he was not surprised with the industry and patriotism the Committee members devoted towards organising an eventful celebration as he said that the Administration took its time to select the members. He said that he expected no less from the Chairman and his colleagues on the Committee.
Prof. Egbewole encouraged members of the Committee and the entire University community to work together towards organising a groundbreaking ceremony as he noted that “we would be called what we call ourselves”.He added that the Committee should ensure that everything and everyone in the University goes around with the logo for all to know that 2025 is the year of the University.
Prof. Egbewole, therefore, suggested the branding of the University Main Gate and its vehicles with the anniversary logo, saying that if the University does not blow its trumpet no one would blow it.In his opening remarks at the unveiling ceremony, the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu, said that the event was organised to officially kick-start the sensitisation of the University community and stakeholders about the upcoming anniversary.
Prof. Mokuolu described the unveiled logo as a product of intensive interactions among members of the University community who have been devoting their intellect, time and energy as well as other resources towards the success of the anniversary.He said that the logo consists of five stars, which depict stars thrown to the world by the University in the last five decades of its existence as he said that the central star in the logo represents the rising sun, which the University has been among its peers.He thanked the Vice Chancellor for his support and for always working with the Committee anytime his attention is needed.
The ceremony was witnessed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Abayomi Omotesho; the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali; the Registrar, Mr Mansur Adeleke Alfanla; the Bursar, Mr Abiodun Lawal and the University Librarian, Dr Kamaldeen Tunde Omopupa.The ceremony was also attended by Deans of various Faculties, Directors and Chairmen of the University-based trade unions as well as members of the Anniversary Committee, among several others.
